education

when i go to school . . .

i learn what one white man did 200 years ago instead of how to grow our own food in community gardens today.

i learn how to raise my hand and follow instructions instead of how to honor my body and regulate my emotions

i learn how to find 'credible sources' instead of how to listen to and trust my own intuition.

i learn how to tolerate being around certain people instead of how to set boundaries and remove those people from my experience.

i learn the seasons for taxes instead of the four phases of a woman's menstrual cycle.

i learn how to memorize useless facts instead of identifying and understanding the species in my local environment.

i learn how to set up a retirement fund for the future instead of how to be present in the only time we ever have, now.

i learn about the idea of freedom while being somewhere that i am not allowed to leave.

public school has taught me a lot of things but it never taught me any of the wisdom or skills that i actually need. it taught me how to conform, how to work, how to adopt a system without ever questioning it. but education is so much more than facts and knowledge, learning is an eternal journey that arrives in every way imaginable. when i eat breakfast, i learn to slow down. when i feel triggered, i learn to notice and alchemize. when i know grief, it opens a portal to even greater love.

we were never meant to 'learn' in a classroom, sitting down under fluorescent lights with a stranger telling us what to think according to a 'one size fits all' curriculum. we are meant to explore and expand in our own soul's perfect timing. with mentors and elders offering support and guidance. outside, tending to the land and communing with the earth's creatures. with care and protection from our families and our mothers.

this is how the children of the new earth will learn, not through doctrine, but through play.

i graduate high school this year and i will not be continuing my education by participating in another institution.

i will be expanding my learning through beekeeping, connecting with my community, spending time with mother earth, and going deeper within myself to uncover the truth that has always been there.

♡, fin

The purpose of the Prussian school system, which served as a model worldwide, was to create "good subjects" - not to lead to human freedom.
