winter on its way (a poem)

1 min read

i sit inside a chilly autumn morning

a mug of cacao warms my hands

it warms my heart

the deer come to visit

and geese fly overhead

i listen to their huffs and honks

i remember my truth in nature

i remember my role in this ecosystem

the geese begin a long journey south

the deer prepare to stay

for soon the world will be quiet and still

asleep within a white winter

i do not migrate

i will remain here

through this season of death

i will rest and go inward

i will move slowly and be cold

honoring the animal of my body

the sounds of the planet

tell me it is time

i am the earth

and she is me

together we will respect

this sacred pause

and surrender to being
